  • Bears the date 21 March 1953.
  • Signed by W.C. Taylor, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioner of Currency.
  • Printed by Waterlow and Sons.
  • Dimensions : 125m x72mm
  • a single fold line meaning a soft but visible crease at the centre.
  • bright and clean
  • never washed.

1940 Purple Malaya King George VI Ten Dollar Currency Banknote






Remarks and Details :

  • This note is in VF very fine grade.
  • 4 crease or fold lines ; 1 horizontal and the other 3 vertical
  • The note is still crisp and strong.
  • A minimum of dirt or soiling.
  • Never washed.
  • No tear and no holes.
  • Very minor edge fraying at left bottom corner.
  • The other 3 corner edges are still sharp.
  • Printed by Waterlow and Sons (the preferred printer!)
  • Dated 1st January 1940
  • Signature: H.Weisberg, Chairman of The Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya
  • Serial Number: A/79 080385

General Information
Banknotes in denominations of 1, 5 and 10 dollar notes were printed in the U.K. for circulation in Malaya in 1940.

The Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya commissioned Waterlow and Sons to design and print a new set of bank notes with the portrait of King George 6th., for use in the Straits Settlements and Malaya States.

A set of proofs, printed on watermarked bank note paper and dated 1st. January, 1939 were prepared. The proofs were $1 in Green, $5 in Blue and $10 in Purple. The Proofs were accepted and the bank notes were printed with the 1st. January, 1940 date.
